Our members have decided that the distribution of free software in schools and the distribution of OERs on our workshop topics should have top priority. For our work, this means, for example, that we will attach great importance to the reusability of the material, also when preparing workshops for holiday camps and similar activities. In addition, we gear all our developments in the field of free software towards reusability, help projects that develop free software for education and bring recommendations and experience with it to schools and others.

2. Offer online platforms allowing for exchange

As a second priority, we want to offer children and young people an online platform to exchange ideas about projects and to use free software. This also includes our e-mail and jabber service for children and a lot more that needs to be planned now.

3. Holiday camps and afternoon get-togethers

As usual, we wanted to continue offering holiday and weekend camps as well as afternoon meetings, where children and young people can work with computer science, sciences in generral and free software. In the future, however, we will pay more attention to sustainability in terms of materials and follow-up projects (see above).

4. Education and presence at events

We want to actively present all of the above goals at events such as trade fairs and conferences and ensure the visibility of free software in education.

Privacy warning: Pokémon GO

Dear childen and parents,

Our association not only organizes activities in the fields of science and technology, but has also made it its business to inform children, young people and parents about the topics of data protection, privacy on the Internet, the consequences of consent in licenses and terms and conditions of games and online services and much more. to inform and to ensure that such consents are understandable.

The new game "Pokémon GO" was recently released for smartphones in the USA. This is a further development of the well-known Pokémon series from the Japanese game manufacturer Nintendo into a so-called "Augmented Reality" game, ie a game that uses a smartphone to mix reality (e.g. camera images) and game content (e.g. three-dimensional Pokémon) .

"Pokémon GO" is developed and operated by Niantic Labs, Inc., a former subsidiary of Alphabet, Inc. - better known as the Google Group. Google still holds substantial stakes in the company, whose managing director is a former Google vice president.

The game has now also started in Germany, and some users have had access to the game for a longer period of time. If the immediate success of the game, as it can currently be seen in the USA, becomes just as clear here, a large number of young people with smartphones as well as many adults will soon become addicted to Pokémon (again).

In contrast to the previous Pokémon games, however, there is one important difference: the serious invasion of the privacy of the players. This is unbelievably large, even by Google standards, which is why we have decided to explain the effects of consent in this form in advance.

First of all, the note that, according to these conditions, children under the age of 13 may only participate in the game after a legal representative (e.g. a parent) has registered with "The Pokémon Company International, Inc." and has indicated that the own child is allowed to participate in the game (Section 2.iii).

The same applies to Google accounts in general - registering a Google account, e.g. to use proprietary Android smartphones, Google Mail, the Ingress game and other Google products, requires the written consent of a parent (according to German law: of all legal guardians).
