Nach der Auswertung unserer Umfrage benutzten fast alle der Schülerinnen und Schüler WhatsApp (94%) und YouTube (91%). Aber es wurden auch häufig Instagram (57%), Musical.ly (25%) und Snapchat (56%) benutzt. Dieses Ergebnis ist ähnlich wie bei anderen Umfragen, die wir uns vorher anschauten: Trotz des mangelhaften Datenschutzes ist WhatsApp noch immer der am meisten genutzte Messenger-Dienst.
Viele benutzen Instant Messaging und soziale Netzwerke, um in Kontakt zu bleiben und um Informationen für die Schule zu erhalten. Die meisten haben die Nutzungsbedingungen nur überflogen, einem Drittel der Befragten war es nicht wichtig, diese aufmerksam zu lesen. Das ist nicht so gut, da man sich genau informieren sollte, welche persönlichen Daten von einem wie verwendet werden. Die große Mehrheit der Befragten findet es aber trotzdem schlecht, dass ihre Daten gezielt gesammelt, dann analysiert und später verkauft oder sonst wie weiterverwendet werden.
Viele Kinder wurden von Freunden oder Mitschülern dazu gebracht, diese Dienste zu nutzen. Eltern haben ebenfalls einen großen Einfluss auf die Wahl und Nutzung von sozialen Medien, die Schule scheint eher die Nutzung des in der Lerngruppe verbreitetsten Messengers zu fördern.
Wichtig ist für sie, dass sie schnell und einfach mit ihren Freunden chatten können. Es werden sehr häufig private Textnachrichten, Fotonachrichten, Sprachnachrichten, und gelegentlich Sprach- und Videoanrufe benutzt. Hingegen werden öffentliche Status-Posts und öffentlich gepostete Fotos immer seltener.
Die meisten Jugendlichen denken zuerst nach, wer den Inhalt sehen soll und ob der Inhalt im Internet stehen soll. Das ist sehr gut, denn wenn man aus Versehen etwas postet, vergisst das Internet es nie. Fast alle Befragten dachten genau nach, wen sie vorher alles fragen sollten, ob sie etwas ins Netz stellen dürfen (z.B. bei Fotos von anderen). Das ist gut; man kann nämlich haftbar gemacht werden, wenn man jemand anderen ins Netz stellt, ohne ihn vorher gefragt zu haben.
85% der Schülerinnen und Schüler sind freiwillig in einem speziellen Gruppenchat der Klasse, einen von der Schule unterstützten Klassenchat haben ausnahmslos alle Befragten.
Mehr als die Hälfte der Befragten haben von dem Begriff Freie Software schon einmal gehört. Es ist sehr schade, dass bisher nur 10% diese Software benutzen, aber zwei Drittel würdensich wünschen, soziale Medien mitgestalten zu können.
Daraus folgt insgesamt, dass viele Kinder und Jugendliche die gewählten, meist proprietären und unsicheren, Dienste nur nutzen, weil sie keine vergleichbare freie Alternative kennen oder haben. Ihnen ist der Datenschutz sowie ihre Rechte und Mitbestimmung schon sehr wichtig, jedoch müssen die Möglichkeiten udn Alternativen besser gestaltet und an Schulen und Lernende herangetragen werden.
