This flexibility was not possible under strict separation of instances per school. While measuring loads of only 50 to 60 percent under regular use, we could provide for short-term peaks like public events like open days or public trainings only through vertical scaling, which had to be paid by the single institution.

During the winter holidays 2020/2021, we therefore replaced this model with a solidary one, in consentaneous coordination with the involved organisations. In this model, we operate all BigBlueButton servers in one pool rather than separated by institution. This pool can, much like our public instance we had from the start, be used by the general public. Insitutions can still reserve resources. On such a reservation, we resize the pool to fit the newly reserved resources. The instituion continues to get their own frontend under their own domain, and, on request, also their own API token that grants them limited access to only their own meetings and participants. The reserved resources are then complemented by 10% from our own budget for solidary use.

We thank all institutions that agreed to the solidary hosting and thus open up free platforms firstand foremost to their own, but also all other learners. Requests for reserved resourcen can be directed to us [by e-mail](mailto:schulsupport@teckids.org).

1. Jitsi Meet

As well as the [official instance](https://meet.jit.si/), Teckids also provide an instance of Jitsi Meet specifically for use in education. The address is [meet.teckids.org](https://meet.teckids.org). Jitsi Meet can be accessed with Desktop devices from the web browser or on smartphones/tablets with the Jitsi Meet app (available from app stores).

No, Jitsi Meet works without an account. One simply shares the link that leads to the conference room. All participants then need to click that link, and then grant access to the microphone and camera in the browser.

Yes. Room Passwords can be set via the "i" that is to be found at the bottom right of the browser window.

Yes, that is also possible. However, if you do not need video or screen transmission, we would request that you use the Mumble tool instead (see below) to save resources.

Dialing into a conference using a telephone call is possible through a german land-line phone number (or will be possible from Tuesday, March 17 2020). The necessary information is available from the information button.

2. BigBlueButton

[BigBlueButton](https://bigbluebutton.org/) provides video conferencing and a lot more, to facilitate and improve online teaching. This includes an interactive whiteboard that the presenter can use alone, or all participants can share as a whiteboard, or on which anyone can create presentation material. The solution also offers extensive Moderation and collaboration opportunities, so-called "breakout rooms", to temporarily split a group into smaller groups, and a lot more.

In addition to the [demo instance](https://demo.bigbluebutton.org/gl/), Teckids e.V. provide their own BigBlueButton instance, which is specifically provided for Educational use. The address for the latter is [bbb.teckids.org](https://bbb.teckids.org).

Yes. To create a room you need an account (see Teckids account below). The access to existing rooms depends on the settings for the room. This includes the possibility of allowing guest access, in which case no account would be required for guest users.

Many schools and school authorities offer Moodle instances. In addition, the Moodle instance run by Teckids e.V. can be found here: [lms.teckids.org](https://lms.teckids.org) and is available to all.

No registration is required to use Mumble. However, if you want to be able to save conference rooms permanently, that requires you to complete a simple, one-time registration that is done within Mumble. (self -> Register in the menu). A Teckids account is not necessary.
