> <i>„(1) Die Vertragsstaaten erkennen die wichtige Rolle der Massenmedien an und stellen sicher, dass das Kind Zugang hat zu Informationen und Material aus einer Vielfalt nationaler und internationaler Quellen, insbesondere derjenigen, welche die Förderung seines sozialen, seelischen und sittlichen Wohlergehens sowie seiner körperlichen und geistigen Gesundheit zum Ziel haben. Zu diesem Zweck werden die Vertragsstaaten a) die Massenmedien ermutigen, Informationen und Material zu verbreiten, die für das Kind von sozialem und kulturellem Nutzen sind und dem Geist des Artikels 29 entsprechen; b) die internationale Zusammenarbeit bei der Herstellung, beim Austausch und bei der Verbreitung dieser Informationen und dieses Materials aus einer Vielfalt nationaler und internationaler kultureller Quellen fördern; c) die Herstellung und Verbreitung von Kinderbüchern fördern; d) die Massenmedien ermutigen, den sprachlichen Bedürfnissen eines Kindes, das einer Minderheit angehört oder Ureinwohner ist, besonders Rechnung zu tragen; e) die Erarbeitung geeigneter Richtlinien zum Schutz des Kindes vor Informationen und Material, die sein Wohlergehen beeinträchtigen, fördern, wobei die Artikel 13 und 18 zu berücksichtigen sind.“ </i>
Internetsperren und das Ausschließen von bestimmten Inhalten aus unseren Diensten halten wir an dieser Stelle für keinen guten Weg. Zum einen sind Internetsperren in vielen Fällen sehr restriktiv, sodass Kindern auch oft durch die Internetsperren Informationen vorenthalten werden, die Sie mitunter auch für sinnvolle Zwecke benötigen. Zum anderen sollen Kinder auch lernen sich im Internet zu bewegen und selbst zu unterscheiden, welche Inhalte für sie geeignet sind und an welchen Stellen sie sich unwohl fühlen.
Wir empfehlen Eltern, die ersten Schritte im Umgang mit dem Internet gemeinsam mit den Kindern zu gehen und Gespräche über die gesehenen Inhalte und die genutzten Onlinedienste zu führen. So bekommen Eltern einen Einblick in das Nutzungsverhalten der Kinder, der auf einer Vertrauensbasis basiert und die die Privatsphäre der Kinder nicht verletzt. Durch das Feedback der Eltern lernen Kinder zwischen sinnvollen und ggf. ungeeigneten Inhalten zu unterscheiden.

Zudem wird es sich nicht verhindern lassen, dass Kinder früher oder später einen Computer ohne diese Sperren benutzen. Analog dazu lernen Kinder den richtigen Umgang mit dem Straßenverkehr auch nicht auf einem völlig von der Außenwelt abgetrennten Platz, sondern auch nur durch die regelmäßige Nutzung. Des Weiteren können aber auch die Eltern von ihren Kindern lernen, weil Kinder schneller lernen und so oft einen besseren Einblick in die neuen Möglichkeiten, die die Medien bieten, bekommen.

Im [Artikel 16 „Schutz der Privatsphäre und Ehre“](https://www.kinderrechte.de/kinderrechte/un-kinderrechtskonvention-im-wortlaut/#c3249) der UN-Konvention über die Rechte der Kinder heißt es:
> <i>„(1) Kein Kind darf willkürlichen oder rechtswidrigen Eingriffen in sein Privatleben, seine Familie, seine Wohnung oder seinen Schriftverkehr oder rechtswidrigen Beeinträchtigungen seiner Ehre und seines Rufes ausgesetzt werden. > (2) Das Kind hat Anspruch auf rechtlichen Schutz gegen solche Eingriffe oder Beeinträchtigungen.“</i>
Passwörter dienen dazu Informationen vor unbefugtem Zugriff zu schützen. Mit ihnen erhalten Kinder zum Beispiel Zugang zu ihren E-Mails oder zu ihren Social-Media-Accounts. Mit der Kenntnis der Passwörter erhält man somit auch Zugriff auf Informationen, die Teil der Privatsphäre von Kindern sind. Der Schutz der Privatsphäre ist ein Grundrecht aller Menschen.
